Now that the pay award for 2009/10 has been finalised, UNISON is pressing ahead with preparations for next years pay negotiations. The UNISON NJC Committee has considered a wide range of economic indicators, pay comparisons with other public sector workers, and the state of local government finances in 2010/11, and has agreed that the claim should be for a one year flat rate increase of £500, or 2.5% whichever is the greater over one year.

2.5%or £500 not a very ambitious claim, when did the employer last give us what we asked for? the only real hope I can see for the low paid would be the unlikely scenario of a Lib Dem win at a general election and the income tax threshold being raised to 10k. sad to say Labour is no longer offering real socialism and Torys are more interested in foxhunting than poverty. of course I can't vote Lib Dem I can't afford the Mansion tax!
