NJC PAY 2009/10 Pay Settlement – Offer Accepted
Thank you to everyone who took part in the branch's recent consultation over the 2009/10 pay claim. The results of our ballot were communicated to the national body and at a meeting of the UNISON NJC held on Wednesday 09 September, these results where considered and an overwhelming majority, 89% of members, accepted the offer of a 1% pay rise for the majority of workers. The other Unions involved in the negotiations have also accepted the offer and as a result, the employers have been asked to implement the agreement ASAP.

Its important we don't see this 1% as some kind of victory, the fact is it represents a pay cut in real terms. I know times are tough but this country spends Billions building bombs and fighting wars when investing half that amount in foreign aid would bring far better results and cost far less lives, it would also free up real funding for public services. why should we be made to feel guilty for asking for fair pay, it is not us who give billions to banks, it is not us who spend billions on bombs and it is not us who would choose to pay for Sir Freds pension by taking money from care homes. We have to challenge the concept that public servants are responsible for deteriorating public service, by accepting 1% we simply reinforce this mistaken perception.
